5/19/2014 - San Cabos Letter & Pics

Hola

Well this week was great, i learned so much spiritually and how to be more of a missionary and what I need to do more.  Sometimes it is really hard, and your feelings get hurt, and you want to do better you want to be the best missionary or person and sometimes you fall, and it hurts, a lot.  You think that you can do it and you are trying, trying with all your heart and soul, and then you realize you aren't even close.  I gave a talk yesterday in church, it was an amazing experience, because i didn't know any Spanish before i came here and there i was talking about the love of Christ to everyone and they understood what i said. You could hear a pin drop it was so quiet, normally you have children running around and laughing, but it was quiet and we all felt the spirit so strong. It was amazing, i knew in that moment that I could do anything and the only thing that was keeping me from moving forward was me. I know i can do this, I know that Jesus Christ lives, I know that this church is true, because i know in my mind and i know in my heart the love of Christ for the people here, i have felt it and i don't ever want to lose that feeling again.

Anyway, we headed to La Paz for a conferencia with Elder Johnson and i found out there were 5 missionaries from Arizona! Yeah how cool is that, we have in the picture left to right, Elder Judkins from QueenCreek, Elder Bingham from Mesa (no not the seminary teacher, he has no idea who that is) Me in the middle from Chandler, Elder Rotche, Roche, Rutche (i can't remember) he is from Gilbert and then Elder Carden from Scottsdale, it was great. We were all talking about food and places in Arizona that we had been too!  Anyway, we went back to our area, and looked for a person and we were led to a house with a door 15 feet in the air and no stairs, so sometimes i think the people give us a challenge to reach them really and teach them. It was great we laughed.

This morning we went to a look out point and watched the sunrise so beautiful, the elders climbed a rock and held a Book of Mormon in the air! i took a picture it was great i want to put this in a magazine or something! It was Elder Serna and Elder Velazquez, they are great, really funny at sometimes. This week has been amazing and I love the missionary work it is hard sometimes but in the end the blessings are so great and wonderful there are no words that explain the feelings.

We are his children, his children! he wants to hear us, he wants to know that we are here, pray to him in all the energy of your heart and talk to him, let him know what is going on in your life, he loves you so much, he wants to bless you! I love you all and i hope that you have a great week!

5/12/2014 - San Cabos Letter & Pics

Hey Everyone,

This week was amazing, i loved every minute of it. My companion and I worked really hard and we had found 17 people in the street, it was great!  We had zone meeting and the sky was so beautiful in the morning with rays of pink, orange, and yellow, it reminded me of the Sunsets in Arizona! So beautiful, but i have the Sea with me hahaha.  Anyway, Its always fun to see the other elders, because right now my district is all Hermanas and two Elders, anyway, afterwards we headed to McDonald's because our food appointments were not there.

We headed to an area where it takes us 20 minutes or less to travel by bus and we found a small restaurant that all of the decorations had to do something with cows and there was a sign and i thought about Anna and her obsession with cows. It was pretty cool. We also found a really big Mascara Brush, haha it was great. So this Sunday was great, there is this family in the Ward, they are amazing! and they had bought crickets, candy crickets, and they wanted the "gringos" (this would be me and the other american hermana in our district) to try them. So yeah i had two crickets, ooooh lets just say i will not be trying them again, they tasted like soy sauce and dried grass mixed together with a hint of chicken, but i think that was just the sauce, or my imagination.  It was great i have two videos of me eating the crickets.

I also had the opportunity to have my family call me, it was great! It was wonderful to hear their voices and just know that they are there, and supporting me.  I didn't know how much i missed just hearing them and knowing they were on the other side of the phone, what a blessing to know that i can be with them for Eternity and share happiness with them and share a love that is much more and holds all of us together.  It is so hard, words cannot explain the feelings of a missionary, who walks everyday, to an appointment that might not be there, to teach people who in their hearts don't want to listen, to study more about Jesus Christ and become more like him.  Like Him we are rejected, neglected and turned away, Like Him we try everyday to reach out to the people and share this love, this happiness, this joy, this Gospel. Like Him, we know this is true.

I know this gospel is true and though it is hard and trying at sometimes, the blessings and the fruit of this gospel are priceless, and endless. I know that Jesus Christ Lives and this gospel is true.  I love you all, thank you.

Always Happy,

Hermana Newmeyer

5/5/2014 - San Cabos Letter & Pics

Hey Everyone,

Well this week was packed with so many stories and interesting things, i think i'll start with the food, Tostilocos!!! oh my goodness its so good, its like nachos in a bag but better and not nachos, but candy and just heaven. Also i had Chamoy Hielo, that was good as well, i am writing down how to make the food here so i can share when i get home, aha this is going to be great, we could have a big party and i can cook food! hehehe, i love to cook/bake/eat.

We had Dia de NiƱos here, and its way bigger than the other holiday, which i can't remember right now, oh wait yeah 5 de mayo, ha they don't really celebrate this holiday, Estados Unidos does and that's about it. Anyway, they have huge fiestas for this day for the Children and they had pinata's and movies, and games, its great! there is a picture of on of the hermana's throwing candy into the group of the children, it was like she was feeding birds, they were all squealing and grabbing candy, it was great! They also watched a movie RIO 2!!! aaagggghhh, RIO is my favorite movie and when i saw what they were watching i flipped! i like "what is this movie?!?!, when did it come out?!?!" secretly i wanted to stay and read the subtitles in the movie, but we didn't we went to our app ointments. It was great! They also had thier pillows and blankets on the ground, and i couldn't but help think about our activity of "pillows and blankets" for FHE and eat pizza and play games and watch a movie together as a family, oh what sweet memories I love them all!

So we have this fence next to our apartment and normally you can't go through it because a really un-normally skinny person would only be able to fit through. and we have investigators on the other side of the fence and we would have to walk all the way around to get to them about 10 min walk or a 5 second walk through the fence, well we found one of the bars in the corner is bent just enough for a normal person to get through it was great! Also we had a really good dinner last night, toast, jam, eggs, popcorn, cucumbers, and peanut butter, we had a contest for throwing the popcorn in the air and catching them it was fun.

So we had Volleyball this morning and it was so much fun, although i am feeling really burned right now, hehe oh well, it was great we played with the youth and afterwards we formed the letters MAMI for espanol and MOM for english for Mothers day this week! It was great, everyone was helpful and we had fun playing and forming the letters.

Thought for the day!!  Alma 17-27 story of my life as a missionary, read it!  but  the one scripture i want to share is the first ch. 17 vs. 3. after the mission all his friends were still strong in the church and what joy Ammon had, they had much prayer and fasting for one thing, the spirit of God, with this they could do anything. All of you who have been baptized and made that promise with the Lord to always have his spirit with you, remember that it can be taken away, and the only way to keep it is to do what is right, and ask for it with muh prayer and fasting. I know this is true, my heart is full and filled with a joy that is indescribable, its something that you have to feel for your self. This gospel is true, i know and i cannot not deny it.

I love you all and remember to Work Hard, Do your Best, Never Give Up and Stay Strong!

4/28/2014 - San Cabos Letter & Pics

Hey Everyone,

Well this week has been great and i learned a lot. First off a quote from Elder Dallin H. Oaks, he says:

"To know is not enough, To testify is to know and say, To be converted is to do and become."

Now read it again but slower, What i know is not total, what i testify is what i say but when i am converted, is when i act. What have you done this week to be converted?  have you prayed, earnestly asking specifically, this is important, specifically, the Lord is specific, love one another, obey my commandments etc. This week I have become closer to being converted, I am realizing what it takes to have the fullness of the gospel in our lives.

I was talking with my companion and finding out a little bit about her family, and her parents were married in the temple, but are separated when she was 15 or 16 which was about 6 years ago, and she told me that when she wanted to serve a mission she wanted her parents there with her, through everything, she told how happy she was when her mom decided to go to church with her. She then expressed her joy to me when she said that she had her father also attend and they were all in church, she was thrilled and excited and receives letters from them and they are still in church.

Stop and realize your families in this moment, where you are and how blessed you have been for everything. Families are so important to Heavenly Father, this is how we are to live after Death with Him and our Families! I love my family so much! The families here are broken, separated, hurt, trying to find out where they are, and just striving to make it through the day.  Then there are families that are happy, and feel the joy of the gospel. oh if i could just plant the seed of this gospel in the hearts of others what joy and peace they could have.

What´s the difference between a seed and a pebble everyone? The seed GROWS. If you´re spending your time and energy and heart and thoughts on something and it isn't growing, or progressing, or bringing you REAL joy, maybe you´re watering and nurturing a rock. Go find a seed. I promise you there´s a good one in The Book of Mormon. Try it out!

This week we had a couple visitors in our house namely Cockroach, we had at least 4 maybe 5 i can't remember but we were looking for one of the little buggers for about 30 minutes and we couldn't find it, turns out he was hiding in my BED!!! aaaaagggggggghhhhhhh, i was antsy all night! i wanted to sleep on my desk.  We also have what is called heat, and when you walk in it all day, you sweat, and smell. One day, my companion and i were walking i could feel the sweat dripping down my back and my face, we had little rags to wipe off the sweat and they were drenched, we started laughing and it was just funny that we were so hot and sweating like crazy i looked like a red tomato and my companion was just wet looking, it was the best!

I love you all thank you for reading my letters. The foto of the house with the cows is for Anna, this lady had at least 50 cow figures in front of her house, and more in her house! I thought of Anna and Richard old and in a house full of cows. Also the foto of the little dog is for Emma and Brady, there are so many little dogs that think they are the king of their territory. This week has been awesome and i promise more pictures next week!

Always Happy,

Hermana Newmeyer
