1/26/2015 - Mazatlan Letter

Hey everyone!

Wow this week has been incredible, i have learned so much. We have been talking with pretty much everyone in the streets here and we haven't had many return visits but we narrowed down families that we met, and they are fantastic. We were able to teach one family about the Plan of Salvation and they all just were eating it up the first visit we left pamphlets about it and their daughters ran upstairs when we started and came rushing back with the pamphlets in their hands saying 'we read this today!' oh so excited, another family we taught about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it was just the mom and her older son, but the lesson was simple, clear and full of the spirit, at the end we asked the mom if she would pray to know if these things are true, and then we asked if she would be baptized, she said yes! we were on the tips of our toes the whole week, just floating on by.

We also were able to have a really good ward activity! super fun. I am so happy to be here and grateful for the chance to share the gospel, it has both blessed my life and others around me, i can see people change from where they are and how sad they are feeling to just being happier and smiling the whole time. I love it! This is the last week of transfers and my companion has only one more left so she will probably be going somewhere else, i will be in this area now for 4 transfers, about half of my mission in this area. whoa, and i already have people asking me if i can get married here. super funny. Anyway, i hope that everyone is doing alright, if you get the chance ask the missionaries in your ward to teach you the lessons so that you can share with your friends, or accompany the missionaries to a lesson, they would love that! I love you all, have a good week and don't forget to smile!

Always Happy,

Hermana Newmeyer

Talking with Everyone!

Hey everybody,

Wow this week was amazing! we put a goal this week to talk with 60 people, it didn't have to be a contact just to talk with them. Can i just say super hilarious and incredible this was. We started out and just talked with people, at first we just walked down the streets and just stopped by people who were sitting down, the next day we walked after people who were walking and then the next day we were fighting each other to talk with the person, sometimes running after them, and the people would see us coming, talking with everyone. So they are thinking, oh snap they're coming to talk, and they would change their direction or walk across the street and just completely avoid us. We found a group of women sitting and talking, and i wanted to contact them so i went up with a handful of cards of Jesus Christ and one of the woman saw me coming, of course i was smiling from ear to ear, and she leaned over to her friend and they both were kinda in shock and started to recite a prayer from the rosary beads and when i came up i said hello! The one woman was like 'what do you want?' and i asked if i could share the cards that i had, she said that they were praying. So i left. but super funny, we have had other people just take the card and keep walking and we walk behind them talking to them the whole way. We ended up talking with 59 people, yeah one short, i miscounted.

We had a really good traditional Mexican food, beans with cheese, soooooooo good and not just any kind of beans, frijoles puercos with queso fresco! we also had a chance to do a ward activity and i had the sombreo! soy mexicana!

This week was great, we were really tired and yet spiritually uplifted to be able to do the Lords work we were so excited to do what we could and really just talk and share the gospel with others. We were able to find 3 new families and they are good families, we are so excited to share the gospel with them and they can learn more about who is Jesus and his plan for his children.  We have two weeks left to the transfer and its for sure one of us will leave, my companion is going to die this next transfer, will return home to her house in Argentina and so she will most likely move or go to another area. I am so excited to be here, i love teaching the people and doing all that i can to be here and serve the people. i love you all have a good week!

Always Happy,

Hey Everyone,

This week was great we started it off with Sunday dinner with a member who incidentally has one of the biggest collections of Star Wars i have ever seen in my life. Literally it was one room, floor to ceiling of just collections from Star Wars, It reminded me of Disney World, i miss it so much! He had a helmet that was Darth Vader and with a speaker inside so we all tried it on and it was pretty cool! We also had a great ward activity where we acted out stories from the Book of Mormon and just with random things it was hilarious. I was the Tree of Life from the dream of Lehi. jeje,  We also had a Junta de zona, or a zone meeting and it was great! we talked about being safe and doing crazy things. i wanted to jump up and share some tips from karate, but i decided not to. Anyway, today we headed to Bolichi! super fun, for the sisters we got to wear pants, it was great, i miss wearing jeans. Anyway, we were playing and a few woman came and sat in the back and just watched us. Practically the whole time, and later some of the Elders came up and talked with them they were from another religion but wanted to watch us play.

At first i was like that's cool, and then i remembered that no matter what we do we are always being watched and that someone will always note or see how we act, how we talk and how we are. I think that is one of the most important things that we have, is our ability to show who we are through our actions, if we can show Christ through what we do, how amazing is it when people feel good just to be around you not because your popular or have the latest gadget, but that you are a good person, Our examples mean everything to others, and if we fall others will too.  Be happy, people like happy people. (quote from a good friend). I love you all, do your best and show who is Christ!

Always Happy,

Culiacan! Visa!

Hey Everyone,

This week has been crazy and amazing, opportunities to grow spiritually and just learning the importance of the power of Atonement, i love it. Its amazing to see this week go and come just like it was yesterday, and speaking of yesterday sorry for not writing, we were in Culiacan all day getting the visa for my companion. We started at 5:30 in the morning and we took a bus that i had always wanted to take, the double-decker! it was amazing!!! we sat in the very front row and the guy sitting next to us was dead asleep, so asleep that he snored the whole three hours to Culiacan! he shook the bus, we had an elder sitting in the very back and he said that he could hear him. Needless to say we didn't get any sleep at all. :/  We then spent all morning in the offices of the Mission waiting for the visa, we left at 4 in the afternoon, and took 3 more hours home, thank goodness there was no one snoring the whole time.

We have had a great week our recent convert came with us to teach some people and we only got rejected and no one wanted to hear anything, it was a really hard day. I think this is where it comes more of diligence and enduring to the end, doing all that you can, keeping all of the commandments and knowing that there is hope at the end of the tunnel, I know this to be true there have been times when it has seemed very dark and yet there was always a little light ready to help. We all have weaknesses and sometimes we don't feel worthy and we just want to change and be strong and continue without fault, I really like the scripture in 2 Cor. 12 it talks about Paul asking the lord to take away his faults, he asked three times and in the end the lord says that we have faults to be strong.

I hope that everyone is doing great. Have a good Año Nuevo, go to the temple!

Always Happy,

12/29/2014 - Mazatlan Letter & Pic

Hey Everyone,

Well I don't really have pictures i forgot to bring my adapter, oops. This week was great, we had a wonderful Christmas and i was able to talk with my family for Christmas for one hour. So blessed! It was amazing and we had so many opportunities to share the gospel. First off we all decided as a zone to sing Christmas carols in centro, and we had many listen and enjoy the songs. We then had a great Christmas day, first we headed to our breakfast lunch with some Americans that invited two zones there were so many. We had lasagna and steak and potato salad and just about everything, it was a good potluck, also we were right on the beach so we took pictures and just enjoyed being there. We also sang some songs for them. We then headed back to our area and worked a little bit and then headed over to another dinner who were Americans as well, it was super delicious we had Caesar salad and steak with homemade rolls, we also had homemade chocolate chip cookies, all of the native missionaries were eating those so much, apparently they were really good. I had flan. :) We then headed home and fortunately we had a wonderful party outside our house. There were 8 huge speakers and tons of lights, the music was so loud and strong that our windows started to shake and the floor vibrated. This lovely party lasted to about 5:30 in the morning. it was fantastic.

The rest of the week was wonderful we had a baptism with a young man and he is amazing, just soaked up the gospel, and shared his testimony at the end of the baptism. He said in the first lesson he felt the spirit so strong that he wanted to cry and he knew in that moment that it was true, it was an amazing experience, he was given the Gift of the Holy Ghost Sunday and we had so many people in church it was amazing! I love the gospel, if you work hard and are willing to do everything the Lord will bless you. If you learn it, live it, love it, you will be happy i promise you. Feliz Navidad, y Feliz Año Nuevo.

Siempre Feliz,

Hey Everyone,

So this week has been great! We had our Mission Dinner for Christmas and we had Kentucky Fried Chicken! it was great! super funny. We started the program off with musical events from every zone, we had about 4 zones together in Mazatlan, so it was pretty big!  The zones put together arrangements of Christmas music and sang them for the president, it was awesome, our zone put together three songs, that all tied into one. We put on Santa Claus hats and had red and green scarfs, We had fun. Afterwards we had games and Lunch, super funny the games and we had pinata's, although there were about 80 of us and only 4 pinata's so there was a good amount that didn't get to hit the pinata. Anyway, it was a lot of fun we got to take pictures and talk to all of the other missionaries and have fun!

This week has been great, we have been currently teaching a young man the lessons and about Christ, it has been, he loves music and guitar and piano, so i am teaching him how to play the piano and he is teaching me how to play the guitar. Its really cool. He has a baptism date this Saturday and Hopefully he will be able to go on a mission, he was talking with us the other day about serving a mission, we are so excited. I love it here the people are great,

So i am still in Mazatlan for another 7 weeks and it is great, still hot and i sweat a couple times, but its cool in the morning and evening that we get to wear a sweater but we don't need to sometimes. I love it here we were able to make a Christmas tree on our wall the other night to celebrate Christmas, super cool!

Its amazing the blessing and miracles that have come during this time of year, I am so happy that I am able to share the message that Christ lives and loves us, we are his children and that everyday, we make choices that show we love him in return. It's not easy, it's not something that we can just put aside, it's something that shows us that we can change to become better, to achieve higher to know who we really are, I know that this is true, i have seen people change from the lowest of the low to where they are now, happy confident, content, and just overall filled with Joy from day to day, its amazing to see changes like this. I know that we can change and become more like Christ and see his hand in our lives from day to day if we just read the scriptures, pray to him all the time and then go to church to receive an answer to our prayers. I know that this is true, find Christ this year, find out who He is. He is the Gift.

Always Happy,
